Steven C. Castle, M.D.

Steven C CastleDr. Castle is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. He is Professor of Medicine at UCLA and Clinical Director of Geriatrics at the VA Greater Los Angeles. His undergraduate degree is from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; and his MD is from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.  His residency in Internal Medicine was at OSU-affiliated Riverside Methodist Hospital (Columbus, Ohio), and his fellowship in Geriatric Medicine was at the VA/UCLA program in Los Angeles, California. 

He has been recognized for teaching excellence at UCLA and was awarded the designation of Clinician of the Year by the American Geriatrics Society and was identified as “One of LA’s Best Doctors” by Los Angeles Magazine. He has received two grants from the National Institute of Aging to study immunity of frail older adults, has published over 100 papers, abstracts and book chapters, and has presented over 300 invited lectures.

Dr. Castle has a long time interest in Falls Prevention and is an advisor to the California Center of Excellence on Falls Prevention. He also serves as Corporate Medical Director of Southern California Presbyterian Homes. Further, he provides support for Evidence-Based Quality Improvement towards Geriatrics Best Practices, and his current focus is in shifting the medical model paradigm of “Falls Prevention” to a wellness/ health promotion model of “Balance and Mobility Fitness Awareness”, particularly in Retirement Communities and Affordable Housing.
